Our ugly duckling has become a swan

Still some finishing touches to do be done, like painting the outside but we have moved in.

Definitely need to go furniture shopping but now we can just take our time.
Next job in the nature strip and front garden.

New cast iron palisade front fence - looks just like it was meant to

Letterbox to be installed into the fence

Bedroom 3/guest bedroom - painting by Annette Lodge

Matt tiles (very hard to find in Sydney) from Classic Ceramics in Leichhardt

Stocked up pantry - just need to fix the wine cellars to the walls and then we can load them up too

Elliot Nimmo painting

Need to purchase new dining table - sofa is arriving mid Jan

Love the deck (so does the dog)

 Bedroom 2/dressing room

Master bedroom - wall to be wallpapered, pendant light made by Alex Earl, bedside tables from Bloomingdales, lamps from Life Interiors

  1. Looks fabulous! And makes be disappointed we never got to renovate our place in Rozelle. But we had a baby instead and bought again in Balmain!
And now I miss that house more than ever as its become our investment and we are in Melb.
Love it when someone reno's a place in inner west and keeps some heritage features (but with a twist!)

    1. Thanks Sammie, I love Leichhardt but I really wish I could move Melbourne's shops, bars and restaurants up here - then it would be perfect!

  3. Thank you so much! We're just about to start a renovation in Annandale, conceptually very similar to yours. After so much planning it feels almost surreal to actually be starting so it has been great to read your summary from start to finish. Feeling a lot more grounded.

    Congratulations & thank you again.

  5. Wow, great job!
Great read and thanks for all the links.
We too are going down the reno path around the corner in Marrickville. So great to take some of your ideas down.
Hey - do you know who did your rendering by any chance?

Great job and enjoy those pina coladas!

    1. Hi Tony,
The render was done by a guy called Marco. I will get his details and post here. Just keep in mind it was a renovation and not a restoration, if you want to restore to original you might need a proper heritage (i.e. very expensive) person.

    2. Hey!

No just a mini reno - front facelift.

Our semi was ummmm "modernised" with a greek influence - so i have removed the render and brought it back to the brick, so want to get it smooth ready for painting.

We are putting back in the original entry arch (again 'modernised') putting in new/old look casement window and putting the window above the door back.. and new old door.
And verandah tiling - blooming not cheap as you mentioned.
We have had 3 quotes ranging from $4900-6000. shizen.

Later on in the year - tackle the back of the house and open it up and add a BR or go up and add 2BRs+ bath etc....

Once that money tree out the back starts fruiting... :)

  6. WOW! I love the deck! And the view of the green backyard’s just amazing. It’s so relaxing. :D So how’s your first dinner by the deck? Dining while you see and enjoy everything that you’ve spend your investment on is definitely something to remember. :D

  7. COOL! Your deck is stunning. I really see it as a perfect place to relax and mull over at the same time. You can certainly have a peaceful mind because the place looks quiet and serene. You see, even your dog loves to stay there! :)

  8. Great;; You seem to have achieved a modern look in an older home and still kept it serene as the previous comment pointed out. I am curious what your counter top material is.
